Spain aim to top Group A at the U21 EURO
Cristhian Mosquera, César Tárrega, Javi Guerra and Diego López target victory against Italy
In his appearance against LOSC Lille, Ferran Torres put his name into the record books as Valencia CF's youngest ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League. At the age of 19, he overtakes the previous record held by Gerard López, who at 20 scored against Bayern Munich on September 29th, 1999.
The VCF Academy product converted an excellent assist from Rodrigo to round off a 4-1 win over the French side, and speaking after the game he expressed what an honour it was to open his account in the European competition.
"It was a nice goal to celebrate with the fans," he told VCF Media. "It's an honour for me. It's always nice to play well and help my teammates, and being able to score a goal in the Champions League means a lot to me. I feel very proud."
"I feel confident, and that is showing on the pitch. We have to keep working so that this confidence and the good results last for as long as possible."
Torres highlighted the team's ability to bounce back from adversity, saying that "this team never give up and always get through things, turning the scoreline around. We needed a win like this at home for the fans and for ourselves. This is a turning point for us, and this team can do big things."
